The new flavor of the season, for most vehicle owners in Karnataka, is the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP). As per the Karnataka Government notification, all vehicles registered prior to 01 April 2019 should be fitted with HSRP. Though what happens to the vehicles registered after 01 April 2019 isn't clear, it can be safely assumed that regardless of your vehicle registration date, your vehicle(s) should be fitted with HSRP. The last date, as of 23 October 2023, for fitting HSRP is 17 November 2023.
I have tried to capture the detailed process to request HSRP. As there are two authorised websites to request HSRP, I will take you through them individually.
Note: Keep your vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) handy.
SIAM
- Visit https://www.siam.in/ and select BOOK HSRP.
- Enter the details on the HSRP Registration page. Check I Agree and select Submit.
- Select the vehicle type using the drop-down menu.
Note: The available options for vehicle types are: 2 Wheelers, 3 Wheelers, CAR / SUV / MUV/ UV / VAN, and BUS / TRUCK / OTHER COMMERCIAL VEHICLE.
The manufacturing companies appear based on this selection. If you don't see your manufacturer check and confirm your vehicle type selection. - Select your vehicle manufacturer.
Note: If you have the old Hero Honda vehicles, then select Hero Motocorp Limited. - A new window opens based on your vehicle's manufacturer selection.
- The upcoming screenshots are for the manufacturer, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (P) Ltd.
Pages of other websites may differ depending on the chosen manufacturer. - On the new window (or tab), select ORDER YOUR HSRP NOW.
- Fill in your vehicle details.
- Vehicle Registration State: Karnataka
- Fitment Location: Dealer Premises
- HSRP Order Type: OLD VEHICLE HSRP KIT
The other options are to replace the damaged HSRP(s) - Pincode:
- Vehicle Registration Number:
- Vehicle Chassis Number:
- Vehicle Engine Number:
- Select VERIFY & SUBMIT.
- If the details are correct, you see this message: Vehicle details successfully matched with VAHAN.
If you see a message about mismatched information then check and correct your vehicle details.
Note: Generally, the details in your vehicle insurance policy are truncated. It's recommended to enter details as per your RC. - Select your City and Dealer/HSRP Center (where you wish to get the fitment of the HSRP done).
Note: You can choose your authorized dealer's location or the common HSRP fitment centre. My recommendation is to go to your dealer. - Select a date from Choose Appointment Date.
Important Tip: Look for the non-bold dates. If you select any other dates or if you enter the date manually, you may have to repeat the process again. Repeating the process may also be required if the selected date and time slot aren't available by the time you finish the process. - Select Choose Appointment Slot from the drop-down menu.
- Select NEXT.
- Enter the details.
Note: I only selected Vehicle Type and Billing State using the drop-down menu(s). I also entered the Registered Vehicle Owner Name. I didn't change/enter the other details. - Select NEXT.
- Enter Your Address.
As per the user experience (UX), some technical jargon to ignore, this seems to be applicable where fitment is done at your doorstep. However, this isn't applicable in Karnataka. As the details are mandated, you must fill them. - Select NEXT.
- Enter Your Mobile Number
- Select SEND OTP
- Enter the OTP received on your mobile number
- Select Verify OTP.
- On the PAY HSRP FEE ONLINE page, check the box before I/We and select PAY Rs. xxxx.
- Make the payment using any one of the various options.
- After the payment is done, you see the message: Your HSRP request has been submitted successfully.
Take a screenshot or print this info (even PDF) for future reference. - You also get a confirmation message (SMS) on the mobile number you entered.
- Visit the Dealer/HSRP Center on the date and time of the appointment to get your HSRP fitted.
Transport Department of Government of Karnataka
I tried, for some considerable time, to figure this out on the Government of Karnataka website. No luck!
- You have to visit https://transport.karnataka.gov.in/.
- By default, the website opens in Kannada. To change the language, select English.
- Thereafter it's your research...
